The 5hr and 35 minutes is if you go through Sudbury... which is not the shortest route. From North Bay to Timmins, hwy 11 is the way to go and the trip is about 4 hours. 225 miles.

Ren,

You're right. My eyes are limited by cataracts. Mapquest had two routes. It displayed a map with the Hwy 11 route, but camauflaged the text for that route, by using a "darker" background color. I can't wait for the computer kids who program displays like that, to get to be my age!

I rode about 100 miles in a foursome from Lansing to Detroit some yrs ago. The driver was an off duty police officer. He got stopped by a state trooper for going a "mite" fast. After the driver provided documented identity, the trooper gave him a "courtesy" tip, as fellow professional, saying that if you keep within about 5 miles of the speed limit on the open highway, it's unlikely anyone is going to bother stopping you.

In Ontario, I usually have enough time as a retiree, so I can stay at about the speed limit. But occasionally if I'm pressed for time, I stay within about 10 kilometers of the limit on the open road, and have not had any trouble, even when seen and monitored by air patrol or ground patrol.

Woo Hoo !!! Freinds are on the way or already there. I hit the road 3:30pm EDT.
Actually rather than freinds it's more like family without the common DNA.
However I suspect we all might miraculously have the "Shania Gene".
Naw...not might.....we definetly have the "Shania Gene."

Watch Out Timmins !!!
We're Commin' !!!

Your route surprised me. Almost reminded me of the pony express routes from yesteryear.

Sounded like you were going from way out west, to the far east coast in Baltimore, then back to the midlands in the Great Lakes and Toronto, then climbing up north to Timmins.

But Google maps shows Baltimore mostly on same line as Toronto and Timmins. And that's driving. Flying is even more direct. I never woulda guessed.

OooooH. Driving time for that route is 1 day, + 20 hrs, and a distance of 2,535 miles, if my elderly eyes are reading the correct frame, for a change.

I've driven almost that far, from Michigan to the far side of Arizona. Normal driving takes 3 days. Back when I was in my 20's, I and my younger brother took turns driving and made it non-stop, except for gas, in a day and a half. I wouldn't care to drive that far, even at a slower pace, at my current age. My older brother still does, but he's a leadfoot, and a body builder.

I wonder if customs check at airports are more respectful of Shania fans, than Canadian border guards along the highways. Maybe it just depends on the individual agent/guard.

If the speed limit is 100, they usually won't touch you at 120... if the limit is 90... 104 is my top.... I've only been stopped a few times and only once between Toronto and Timmins.

Word of advice, drive through North Bay and not through Sudbury no matter what the GPS tells you.. it'S quicker cause the speed limit is 90 as opposed to 80 for much of the way.

You'll see plenty of signs about speed being monitored from the air, but I've never heard of anyone in Ontario getting a ticket from air patrols.

AS for spots to watch out for.... When you get back on the divided hwy near north bay, be particularly careful... they are often parked in the middle section at turnarounds. Also be careful 50 km on each side of MAtheson as they can be particularly ruthless there.

I'm getting closer ...lol... but my GPS says I'm still 7hrs 25mins from Timmins ... so I gotta leave earlier tomorrow ... From home its just over 980 miles or 1580 kms ... I think .... :? ...its a bit of a drive ... plus I was just down south to Omaha Ne on Sunday Monday ... and thats a 1200 kms one way ... ..so by the time I get to Timmins I'll be over 4000 kms this week ....I better get to bed .... so I can get up in the morning ....look forward to seeing everyone...

Thanks for the tips Ren !!!

Clover and I made great time and pulled into the hotel in North Bay at 10:45pm.
Only had about 10 minutes of slow traffic just before we left the 401 for the 400 out of the Toronto area.
Had a little rain between Huntsville and North Bay but other than that, it was a beautiful drive and great weather.
I was about to get out of the office an on the road at 2:30 this afternoon which helped a bit.

Sure am looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
Will probably stop by the STC if we get into town before the 2pm gathering at the Taj.

Hoo boy....the fun is about to begin.
:D
